About

Who we are
Formed over 50 years ago, the History Society offers members and visitors an insight into the rich history of the area.

Our annual programme and membership runs from April through to the following May. There are no presentations in our Summer break (July and August) nor in the February winter break. We usually arrange a visit for members in July (cost not included in the annual fee). Meeting are held in Rothbury Jubilee Hall with a guest speaker on a local or national historical subject.

Whenever possible, these talks have a North-East connection, which is not difficult with such a wealth of subjects to choose from.

What we do
We have started to build this website with the aim to give members the opportunity to access local history materials. We hope that some members will want to contribute to the site.

For the website we are developing some local history articles and we are also going to provide occasional short posts. The aim of these posts is to look back at local events that we hope you will find interesting and possibly trigger memories that you may be happy to share with us.

If you have any ideas for posts or more extended articles, we will be pleased to hear from you.

In normal circumstances the History Society meets in Rothbury Jubilee Hall at 7:15pm for 7.30 on the third Friday of the month, from September through to April. Non-members are always welcome at each meeting for £3 per person, whilst annual membership (which includes all 9 lectures/meetings) is £10 per person.

Future schedules of meetings will be listed on the Programme Page. Meetings are also advertised in Over the Bridges magazine and on local noticeboards.
